We started our mission to end distracted driving and raise awareness about motorcycles sharing our roads with everyone we possibly could. After our first ride in 2019, Northern Michigan was on notice.
Do You See Us Now is more of a statement than a question. Open your eyes!
We rode in memory of brothers, Tanner and Willie, who lost their young lives in May, 2022 when they were both riding their bikes to work. They stopped to make a left turn, when a speeding vehicle hit them from behind, tragically killing both. Ages 20 and 21, Tanner and Willie left behind a wonderful family and many friends whose lives will never the same without them. Reportedly, the driver that hit them, said "I didn't see them". DO YOU SEE US NOW???
This was also the first year we hosted a two-day event, with a bike show, cornhole, hot dogs on the barbeque, and live music on Friday evening before the ride. It was a huge success and we cannot wait to do it again for 2023!
On March 21, 2021, Trent (age 26) was struck and killed on his motorcycle in Holland, Michigan, by a driver who turned left in front of him. It has been reported that the at-fault driver was on TikTok at the time of the crash. Trent leaves behind a heartbroken family, including his six-year old daughter, Josie. The 2021 DYSUN ride was in honor of Trent, with half of our proceeds being donated to Josie's education fund. We are so proud to be able to honor this family. Mother Nature tried to throw us off, but we adapted thanks to our amazing families and supporters.
We made last minute changes to our route and our meal plans, but it still went off without a hitch.
In the weeks prior to our ride, we had yet to have selected a family to sponsor for our ride, and then we learned of the passing of Roger and Melanie DeVries. We knew we had to help. Their crash hit us close to home, as one of their daughters lives in Gaylord and is raising her family there.
The tragic loss to this family spoke volumes to us and we sprung into action. So did our followers, sponsors, families, and many more! A total of 246 bikes gathered on July 25th, 2020, to ride in memory and in honor of Roger and Melanie.
Both of their daughters rode with us across the Mackinac Bridge and throughout Northern Michigan, paying tribute to their mother and father. We are honored to have been a part of their lives and look forward to many years of friendship with them.
When Todd was killed by a distracted driver, we took action. Through our 2019 event, we raised nearly $20,000, and donated half of the proceeds to Todd's family to help them through their toughest times. The other half went to ABATE of Michigan for billboards regarding distracted driving and motorcycles.
